What is a Thermostatic Mixer? A thermostatic shower mixer is the ultimate device for mixing and regulating the temperature of water in the shower. The main different to a regular shower mixer is the wax element positioned within the thermostatic cartridge. This expands or contracts as the incoming water temperature changes. This technology ensures more consistent temperature control.

How does it work?

If the water becomes too cold, the wax contracts, which adjusts the internal mechanism of the cartridge to allow more hot water to flow or reduce the cold water flow. Conversely, if the water becomes too hot, the wax expands, reducing the hot water flow or increasing the cold water flow. It’s this clever part that accurately regulates the temperature and allows you precise control over your shower.

Our mixers incorporate a safety stop at 38 degrees which is designed to prevent accidental scalding by immediately shutting off the flow of water if there is a significant change in the cold water supply. This also has the added benefit of preventing sudden temperature spikes.

Note: You can depress the safety button and rotate the handle anti clockwise to increase the mixed outlet temperature, however in accordance with Watermark & WELS standards the max outlet temperature cannot go beyond 44 degrees.

Consistency:
Once set, the thermostatic mixer ensures that the water temperature remains constant, even if there are changes in water pressure elsewhere in the system.
